Our Pack Leader: Jeffrey Davis
Author, & Big-Picture Map Maker
engaging deliberately to everything he does.
Everything I do – from building a thriving business to writing books, poems, & essays to consulting with authors & business leaders to designing learning expeditions to speaking engagements to guiding my two girls’ through childhood – are part and parcel of the same quest for integrity, meaning, and making.
But like most quests, mine has been neither easy nor straightforward.
I have deliberately sought a life of meaning and making since I was 19 and declared in my private notebook I would become a writer and preserve my imagination. In my 20s, I co-founded The Walden Institute, devoted to studying human potential through the intersections of neuroscience, existential psychology, and the literary arts. By age 31, though, I was all intellect and drive with a shrinking heart and vanishing imagination.
My quest in the art of living led me to train in yoga and Zen from Dallas to Woodstock to India. My studies led to a breakthrough book on yoga & creativity published by Penguin.
I’m grateful for the work afforded me. Publishing. Speaking. Interviews. Hanging out with genuine, remarkable human beings truly doing good work in the world. Heading up a premiere consultancy and international community.
Wonder fuels me. Wonder momentarily dissolves our habitual ways of seeing, relating, and feeling so that for a moment we glimpse what is real and what is possible. And wonder informs everything we make and do at Tracking Wonder.
But building a business, a family, and hazarding a host of unbidden surprises took its toll. A house fire. Deaths. Disease. There was a time I feared everything would come crashing down.
So, when I became a father, one October morning I looked into my first infant girl’s sky-wide blue eyes and made a silent two-fold vow: I would learn again from her the art of not-knowing, and I would live a life so rich with creativity and wonder that she would want to become a “grown up.”
Tracking wonder is not kid’s stuff. It’s radical grown-up stuff.
I live with burning questions that shape my days:
The result has culminated in this quest for tracking wonder. I invite you to join me.
Thanks for running with me,
